Restrict Video Access

Video access restrictions have been one of the most frequently asked questions in our support tickets. Previously, we recommended third-party plugins for this functionality.

We are excited to introduce our long-awaited built-in video restriction feature!

  1. How This Feature Works
  2. Enabling Global Restrictions
  3. Overriding Restrictions for Individual Videos
  4. Restricting Auto-Imported Videos

How This Feature Works

Starting from version 3.9.6, you can apply access restrictions globally to all videos listed under the “All Videos” menu or override these restrictions on a per-video basis.

Enabling Global Restrictions

To enable access restrictions site-wide, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to “Video Gallery / Settings / Restrictions (tab)” in your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  • Enable the “Enable Video Access Restrictions” option.
    • This acts as a global switch to enable or disable video restrictions.
  • Select your preferred access option from “Who Can Access the Videos?
    • Everyone
    • Logged out users
    • Logged in users Note: Users with editing permissions (e.g., administrators, editors) will always have access. This is a global setting but can be overridden per video.
  • If you select “Logged in users“, you can further restrict access based on user roles:
    • Use the “Select User Roles Allowed to Access Videos” option to define which roles can access videos.
    • If no roles are selected, all logged-in users will have access. Users with editing permissions will always have access.
  • Configure the “Restricted Access Message” to display a custom message to unauthorized users.
  • Configure the following options for restricted access labels:
    • Show Restricted Access Label: Enable this option to display a “Restricted Access” label next to the video title on gallery thumbnails for restricted content.
    • Restricted Access Label Text: Enter custom text for the restricted access label. Default: “restricted”.
    • Restricted Access Label Background Color: Choose a background color for the restricted access label.
    • Restricted Access Label Text Color: Choose a text color for the restricted access label.
  • Click Save Changes to apply the settings.

Overriding Restrictions for Individual Videos

The global settings apply to all videos by default. However, you can override them for specific videos:

  • Go to “Video Gallery / All Videos” in your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  • Open the video you want to customize by clicking Edit.
  • Locate the “Restrictions” metabox on the right side (below the Video Tags section).
  • Change “Who Can Access this Video?” from “Global” to a custom setting and configure it accordingly.
  • Save the changes.

Restricting Auto-Imported Videos (Premium Feature)

If you are a PREMIUM user and use the “Automations” feature to auto-import videos, you can apply access restrictions during the import process.

To configure restrictions for auto-imported videos:

  • Navigate to “Video Gallery / Automations” in your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
  • Open an automation entry for editing.
  • Locate the “Imported Video Restrictions” metabox at the bottom of the page.
  • Change “Who Can Access this Video?” from “Global” to a custom setting and configure it accordingly.
  • Save the changes.

With this feature, you have full control over who can access your video content, whether globally, per video, or for automated imports. Happy customizing!
