Using the “Trailer / Teaser” feature, you can attach a short preview clip to any restricted video. When a visitor who does not have access to the full video lands on that video page, the plugin plays the trailer in place of the restriction message. An overlay is displayed on top of the player during playback — optionally showing a text label and a link to your membership or login page — so the viewer always knows how to access the full video.
- Prerequisites
- Enable Trailers
- Add a Trailer to a Video
- Customize the Player Overlay
- Customize the Thumbnail Badge
Prerequisites
Trailers are designed for restricted videos. The trailer plays only when a visitor does not have permission to watch the full video. This means the Access Control → Restrictions feature must be configured and at least one video must have its access restricted for trailers to appear on the front end.
If you have not set up video restrictions yet, please refer to our Video Access Control documentation first.
Enable Trailers

- Navigate to the “Video Gallery → Settings” menu from your WordPress Admin Dashboard.
- Click on the “Access Control” tab, then select the “Trailer / Teaser” submenu.
- Check the “Enable Trailers” option.
- Click “Save Changes” to apply.
Once enabled, a “Trailer / Teaser” accordion will appear under the “Access Control” tab in every video edit form, allowing you to attach a trailer to each video individually.
Add a Trailer to a Video
Once trailers are globally enabled, you can assign a trailer clip to any video from its edit form.

- Navigate to “Video Gallery → All Videos” and open the restricted video you want to add a trailer to.
- Inside the “Video” metabox, click the “Access Control” tab.
- Expand the “Trailer / Teaser” accordion.
- Choose a “Source Type”:
- Video / Streaming URL — Enter the trailer URL in the “Trailer Source” field. Supported sources include YouTube, Vimeo, Dailymotion, Rumble, Facebook, MP4, HLS, MPEG-DASH, and more. You can also upload a video file directly using the “Upload File” button.
- Third-Party Player Code — Paste an embed code (iframe or script) from an external player.
- Click “Update” to save.
Note: The trailer plays only for visitors who do not have access to the full video. Users with access will see the full video as normal and will never see the trailer.
Customize the Player Overlay
While the trailer is playing, the player displays an overlay on top of the video. You can customize the overlay text and link from the global settings.
- Player Overlay Text — The text displayed on the overlay. If you set a link URL, it defaults to
Watch Full Video. If no link is set, it defaults toTrailer. Enter your own text to override the default. - Player Overlay Link URL — Enter a URL to make the overlay text a clickable link. Use this to direct visitors to your membership page, login page, or any other sign-up page. Leave empty to display the text without a link.
Customize the Thumbnail Badge
The plugin can display a badge on gallery thumbnails to signal to visitors that a restricted video has a trailer available. This can help drive clicks and increase conversions.
- Show Trailer Badge on Thumbnails — Check this option to enable the badge. It appears on gallery thumbnails only for restricted videos that have a trailer configured.
- Thumbnail Badge Text — The text shown inside the badge.
- Thumbnail Badge Background Color — Choose a background color for the badge.
- Thumbnail Badge Text Color — Choose a text color for the badge.
The Trailer / Teaser feature is an effective way to showcase your content and convert restricted-access visitors into paying members or subscribers. By giving them a taste of what’s behind the paywall — and pointing them directly to your sign-up page — you can significantly improve conversion rates without requiring any additional plugins or tools.
